IMPORTANT Student and Faculty NOTICE-

All Mac, PC, and Network hard drives in The Creative Media Center were ERASED during Georgia State University's Spring Break 2008 holiday.

This action was scheduled as a preventative measure to counter act potentially the harmful effects resulting from the recent introduction of harmful PC computer viruses into the CMC lab.

All Student are responsible for scanning their own personal data storage devices (hard drives, pocket drives, etc.) for viruses when using computers in the CMC with the aid of Norton AntiVirus. Virus scan should start automatically when devices are connected to CMC computer. DO NOT STOP or SKIP virus scans initiated by Norton AntiVirus in the CMC.

All CMC hard drives ERASED on a regular basis at the end of each month and at the end of each semester. Please backup any data you will need. Drives include, but are not limited to: individual computer's hard drive; DaySpace , and network mounted hard drives: CMC_SharedSpace-1, etc.

How storage works: (this is different than other GSU labs):

Storage Areas Allowed for Students :
DaySpace, CMC_SharedSpace-1.

Storage Areas Not Allowed:
User Documents folder, Movies folder, Pictures folder, Library folder, Desktop folder, Music folder or iTunes interface, etc.
Files saved in these areas will be erased.

DaySpace

DaySpace is located on the second partition local hard drive. As a result, you will need work on that same computer again to access your file.  Data on Dayspace is erased at the end of the semester or as needed. Every user may access data on DaySpace, so please do not store sensitive documents on it.  System administrators may delete ANY file at their discretion, without prior notice.  Files that are typically deleted without notice include files under Copyright Protection laws, overly large  (3GB +) files, untitled files or folders, etc.

CMC_SharedSpace-1
CMC_SharedSpace-1 is a network hard drive that is only available in the CMC.  As such, if you save a file on CMCSharedSpace-1, you will be able to access the file again from any Mac in the CMC.  Data on CMCSharedSpace-1 is erased at the end of the semester or as needed. Every user may access data on CMC_SharedSpace-1, and so please do not store sensitive documents on it.  System administrators may delete ANY file at their discretion, without prior notice.  Files that are typically deleted without notice include files under Copyright Protection laws, overly large  (3GB +) files, untitled files or folders, etc.

THE CMC STRONGLY RECOMMENDS THAT YOU DO NOT OPEN AND WORK ON FILES WHILE THEY ARE ON CMC_SharedSpace_.  FIRST COPY THEM TO THE LOCAL (DaySpace) HARD DRIVE in your new folder that you create in the sub folder in Dayspace named "Dayspace Temporary Student File Storage."
