General CMC Information & Student Access Requirements

What is the CMC?
The Creative Media Center is a state-of-the-art digital classroom for Art & Design courses that require high-end MacPro Macintosh computer workstations, digital video editing systems, and large-screen projection with 5.1 surround sound.

In addition, the CMC offers access to all of these features during Open Lab times along with attentive Lab Monitors who can assist students with software questions, digital equipment checkouts, and printing services using medium and large-format printing Epson inkjet printers.

The CMC offers Open Lab Access 6 days per week, outside of scheduled class times, to All Art & Design students and faculty.

Technical workshops and general lab introductions are also available M-F by appointment only, when arranged by Art & Design faculty. Contact the CMC at cmcinfo@gsu.edu for more information.

Who can use the CMC?
ALL Students who are currently enrolled in classes within the Ernest G. Welch School of Art & Design may use the CMC during Open Lab times.

Where is the CMC?
The Ernest G. Welch School of Art & Design is located at
10 Peachtree Center Ave in the heart of Atlanta, Georgia. The CMC is located in suite 460 of the Art & Humanities Building.

The CMC Information Desk can be reached during Open Lab times at 404-413-5278.

Please check the Open Lab Schedule before calling the CMC in order to avoid interrupting classes that are session.

How do I get started at the CMC?
Students who are currently enrolled in classes within the Ernest G. Welch School of Art & Design should come to the CMC during Open Lab
.

Important Note: Beginning 8/18/08, individually created CMC Computer User Login Accounts created for students will be disabled. A general user account is available for use on all CMC student computers. However, Art & Design Faculty members may request custom CMC Computer User Accounts.

Who can checkout equipment at the CMC?
Students who are currently enrolled in classes within the Ernest G. Welch School of Art & Design, and have officially declared their major as an Art & Design undergraduate or graduate student, may checkout digital audio, video and sound equipment at the CMC during open lab times.

Students must comply with all policies concerning the liability for all equipment and be current with all equipment returns and fines in order to checkout equipment. Current proof of identity and enrollment are required and must be provided by the GSU student before any checkouts can be considered.

Georgia State University has a variety of computer lab facilities where students can work and checkout digital equipment.

What to bring to the CMC?
Students ALWAYS need their GSU Identification card for use with the activity reader at the front desk for access.

As a matter of CMC facility policy, the CMC requires that students ALWAYS swipe their GSU Identification Cards when entering and exiting the lab.

Student lab use is collected in this manner during Open Lab, scheduled classes, and faculty supervised digital work sessions held during Open Lab times. This is also the case upon entry of the CMC for special lectures, presentations, and Digital Workshops that are held in the CMC.

Your GSU id is also required for Digital Equipment checkouts, as well as to to pay for printing with the HP 2300 b/w laser printer, HP5500 color laser printer, and the Epson 3000 inkjet printer using Panther Cash.


Will my external hard drive, thumbdrive, CDs, or DVDs, work in the CMC?

Yes. The CMC allows students to use thier own external Firewire and USB hard drives. To do so, student should bring the appropriate cables and make the connection to thier media using the ports on the face of the Macintosh CPUs. The only restriction is that only CMC software applications can be utilized on the facility's computers.

What kind of software does the CMC offer?

The Creative Media Center has recently updated the selection of software packages featured on its Macintosh MacPro computer workstations to include the following:
